Description
A forging is produced by pressing, pounding and squeezing material under high pressure until the desired shape is formed. A forging is very different from a casting in that the material is never actually melted, just moved around.
Forging's are known for their high strength and improved fatigue life. Although there are limitations on the geometry the process can produce. Part designs that are easily produced as a forging will have some symmetry in their design.
Common materials forged are various steel and aluminum materials. Take a look the materials and process charts, these will help to determine the proper process and material for your specific application.
